When You're Done With Living Safe


Safe is a place I've clung to all too often.

Avoiding conflict, avoiding difficulty, avoiding pain.

But safe is just a mirage in this life.  We run to it only to find it evaporate through our fingers.

There is only one safe place in all this sin-stained world, and that is in the arms of Jesus. 

Today my blog is posted over on Incourage, an inspirational site for women.  A place for women to gather and tell their God stories; to share encouragement and faith.  To tell the story of His grace.  I'm so thankful and blessed for this opportunity to lend my voice to chorus of amazing women at Incourage who are boldly telling His story through the everyday moments of their lives.

When Ungrateful Met Grace

You know how it is, two steps forward, one step back. And all this talk of grace and change and it was sure to be tested. The day broke in an off kilter stance.  Something just didn't feel quite right. I think it was the fungus growing in my heart.  The one breeding ungratefulness and complaining. The Habitation of Hope

Hope.  That is the word that stands on the mantle proclaiming to all who enter, "Hope dwells here."  This house was called House of Hope for many years before we came here.  It shone like a lighthouse beaming through the inky black of night, like a city lit, burning on a hill.  This is a place where God breathed hope and He keeps breathing, willing life to all the dead.  Nine months ago when Out of Darkness came to steward this house of Hope, our drop in center, we had no idea what this adventure held.  From our porch we see the women working on the corner, the homeless wander by, the addicted stumble up upon our stoop, all looking for that which satisfies and never runs dry, for the Hope that leads to Life forever and ever.  We meet around this feasting table, rich dark wood, laden with food for a lost wanderer.  We prepare a room with clothes to clothe the naked.  And then we go out and invite them in. When Love Rains Down

I think they were prophetic.   Those words I wrote the day I flew off to Costa Rica for a short term mission trip. That all we have is our little bit of nothing and just this… God's love. Because if I had to describe this trip in just one word, that would be it. Love. Because really that is all we have.   We can’t save the world but we can love it. And we can’t rescue them all but in love we can make a difference for one. And when the love of God compels us then the love of God directs us and the love of God is what changes us all. I went on this trip in faith that God had called me to go.   I went expecting to be poured out.   And I was.   But the truth is that when you give God’s love, you get so much more than you gave.  Because you can't out give God. He loved and so He gave His life for us.  And when we love like Him we give like Him but we are given so much more than we had before.  And I wonder if we lack true riches i
